July 2005 - Hyde Heath Village Shop was the first business in the Chilterns area to be issued with one of the new style premises licences for the sale of alcohol.  Picture shows joint licensees Chris Sargeant & Ruth Coulton  with the new licence.

Chiltern District Council report that only about 25% of businesses have yet applied for their new type licences although the closing date for applications is fast approaching - August 5th.  Those who do not apply by this deadline will be unable to sell alcohol from November 7th this year and any late applications will be treated as completely new licences.

The story of Hyde Heath's New Village Shop began in January 2001 when Mr & Mrs Munnoch announced the closure of the original village shop and Post Office to be effective at the end of March that year.

Residents immediately began a campaign, first to try to prevent the closure, but then to create a new shop run as a cooperative to open as soon as the old premises closed.  This was achieved by hiring a portacabin sited in front of the village hall as a temporary measure whilst plans were developed for a permanent site.

The eventual solution agreed was to extend the village hall creating a purpose built shop and new cloakrooms etc  ...  that is now happening !

These pages record the story in words and pictures ..  the "Backgound"   moving the Portacabin in August 2002 and the new works.
