October 30th

HALLOWEEN  AND BONFIRE  NIGHT

We want everyone celebrating these 2 events to have a good time, however anti-social behaviour of any kind will be reported to the Police Enquiry Centre  on 101 or 999 if it is really serious.

There will be posters displayed in some senior citizens windows requesting that they are not to be disturbed by “Trick or Treat”.  Please respect this request and any door bells which go unanswered.

THAMES  VALLEY  ALERT

Several bulletins have been received this week referring to break-ins of cars and houses around the area.  Now that the clocks have changed  garages and sheds could also be targeted, so please make sure all your valuables are safe and secure . Even garden tools cost money to replace.

SHOP

It is not too late for the last minute purchases of Halloween items.  Sorry to report that all the pumpkins have been sold .

Now that the finishing touches are being done to complete the “new look” frontage we need your custom. Many items are cheaper than supermarket prices so it is worth taking a good look at the products available.  Every penny counts.

Local produce is in abundance and we thank our horticultural residents for their contributions.

VILLAGE  FETE

There will be a meeting in The Plough on Monday November 3rd at 8pm to discuss the strategy of the next Village Fete.  David Coulton who spearheads this annual event needs many willing and helping hands to achieve and maintain the high standard to which we as a village have become accustomed.  If you can help in anyway, no matter how small the input,  please attend the meeting or contact David with any offer of assistance.

RAY  CHALLENOR

Ray is making steady progress after major surgery.  It is encouraging to see him out taking a short walk .  Ray has been totally involved in the village over many years and we send our continued good wishes to both him and Rowena.

There is a lot to organise and each fete organisation begins directly the last one finishes.  David Coulton  heads a very industrious team of people and is always looking for extra pairs of hands.  David works full-time like a lot of residents but still finds time to be totally committed to village functions.  Please support him in any way you can.

SHOPPING  BUS  TO  CHESHAM  We welcome Melissa Laing this week as a new member of our team.

VILLAGE  HALL  AGM

Tonight is the AGM of the Village Hall Management Committee .

The meeting commences at 8.15pm and is open to all residents.  The fete is already  in the early planning stages and we need many hands to make light work. Like all activities which take place in the village, none of them run on their own.

HAND  BELLS

The first rehearsal will take place in the Little Church on the Common on Friday 19th September at 7. 45pm.  The bells have been completely refurbished at some cost and we now need to put them to good use.

CRICKET

The Cricket Club’s final match of the season ended in a handsome 7-wicket win. Ivinghoe and Pitstone batted first and were soon in trouble at 13 for 3, but after their captain managed a reprieve (from what was eventually adjudged a no-ball ) they recovered to 162 all out.  Young Anees took 6 wickets, bowling his medium paced “wobblers”.  In reply the Club scored 163 for 3 wickets with James Shrimpton making the major contribution of 68 not out.   So, the Club ended the 2014 season with 9 wins , 5 draws and 3 losses……………..watch this space for news of the end of season dinner.

THE  SHOP

Work is now under way and for the next 6 weeks there will be “slight disruption”   (to pinch a media quote) and we ask for  your understanding whilst this is in progress. . PARISH  COUNCIL

The Parish Council meeting takes place in the Village Hall on September 1st at 8pm.

This is the chance to air your views, complaints, concerns and also be informed of any procedures which may affect the Village.  There has been a lot of discontent voiced regarding the bollards and yellow lines around the bus stop. Don’t miss this opportunity to get it out into the open and make your dissatisfaction known.

POP – UP   RESTAURANT

A promise of a Gourmet Evening is coming to Hyde  Heath in November.

Tim Zekki’s DEUNDE pop up restaurant which has been a sell out in Chesham and Lt. Missenden ( and is already sold out in Ballinger in September) this year comes to Hyde Heath on Sat. evenings 1st. 8th. & 15th November.

Please Note:- payment is cash only – no card facility.  Bring your own wines etc.

Details of booking and menu choices can be found on the Village Website.

LITTER  LOUTS

We would like to thank the above people who deposited debris and used  carpet inside the entrance to the woods opposite Walnut Way.  Not only has the gate been removed, broken and bent we now have to put up with the “can’t be bovvered” attitude.  Thank you for using it as a council tip – we really appreciate your attitude  and hope we may repay you in the same way and find its way back from whence it came.

CRICKET

Had an exciting 4 wicket win on Sunday. Souail Rauf took 4 wickets as the Bank of England Touring scored 134 for 9 wickets and in reply Hyde Heath were close to the target with only 3 wickets down but they lost a further 3 in quick succession giving their supporters palpitations. They managed to reach 135 for 6 wickets Dominic Haddock was the chief contributor with an innings of 60. The Brian Hartley Trophy was presented to the winners by Veronica Hartley.

This Sunday’s match is at home against Roxbourne  with a 1pm start.

VILLAGE  SHOP  AND  HALL  WORKS

The long awaited works to replace our Village Shop frontage and re-landscape the whole shop/hall frontage will begin on Tuesday August 26th  and take an estimated 6 weeks.

The shop will remain OPEN FOR BUSINESS throughout the work although access will be via the hall for much of the time so do keep coming and supporting it.

The new shop frontage will be brought forward a few feet to be more in line with the hall entrance.  The new forecourt will have a larger flat area and gently sloping approach  designed to today’s exacting standards and giving better disabled access.

ANNIVERSARY  AND  MILESTONE  BIRTHDAY

Earlier this month David and Ruth Coulton celebrated their  40th Ruby Anniversary in true Coulton- style with an energetic Barn Dance in the Village Hall. If we weren’t fit at the beginning of the evening, we certainly were by the end of it.

We wish them a belated Happy Anniversary and wish them many more happy years together.

My Newsletter predecessor, Sylvia Brown,  who lived in the village for many years and was completely  entrenched in our village life, celebrated her 90th birthday last weekend. I know she is continuing to involve herself in the village to which she moved a few years ago and to enjoy her   life there. Congratulations, Sylvia, you are a wonderful example to all us “seniors”.

BE  ON  YOUR  GUARD

Be aware that thieves are still very active in the area . Try to ensure that your property is secure especially when you are away.  Local police will advise if requested.

Also – door to door sellers are in the village – working out of an blue van which can be seen nearby.

CRICKET

The cricket club enjoyed a satisfying 5 wicket win last Sunday over “Gamecox”.

This Sunday’s match it at home to the Bank of England Touring Side commencing at 2pm.

SHOP

Continuing our “Buy Fresh and Local” theme.  If anyone has a surplus of fruit and vegetables which they are willing to donate to the Village Shop , these items fly out of the door.  There has been an abundance of fruit which have barely touched the shelves before being sold.  If your freezers are full please don’t let your home grown vegetables go to waste bring your produce  along and we will sell them.

CRICKET

The match was cancelled last Sunday due to severe inclement weather.

This weeks match is at home against “Gamecox”  starting at 2pm.

PARISH  COUNCIL

There will be a Parish Council meeting in the Village Hall on 1st September commencing at 8pm. This is an annual event which takes place to air your views, complaints , concerns  and be informed of  any procedures which may affect the Village.

ALLOTMENTS

An update on the tenant situation.  I am informed by the Parish Council that there are no plots available at the moment and there is a waiting list. It does seem such a waste that some of the plots are not being  cultivated when others are waiting.

News is limited during the holiday period and we will continue the Newsletter with what information is sent .

CRICKET

On Friday Hyde Heath scored over 200 for the loss of 4 wickets. But the visitors, Petts Wood, showed no inclination to go for victory and they finished 80 runs short for 7 wickets, of which young Stanley Burgham took 5. Weather interfered with Sundays game, but he was keen for a result, so Charlie agreed the length of each innings and we lost a tight game by 1 run.

The weeks match is away at Cublington.

SCHOOL

The summer holidays began yesterday. I would like to draw everyone’s attention to my note of last week  to make all the children who use the pathway between Harvest Bank and Westfield to exercise caution.  Children are still hurtling through this path and this is an accident waiting to happen.  For the residents who live at this end of Westfield their vision is totally restricted and although they drive slowly when reversing, turning and parking they don’t have second sight. We care about the safety of your children.

CREAM  TEAS

Are available every Sunday afternoon at the Parish Church.  A pleasant and leisurely meander down to Little Missenden and back, meet up with friends and enjoy the delights of cakes and a cup of tea.

SHOP

Our thanks go to all “horticulturalists” who have  contributed to the fresh fruit and vegetables for the Shop. Make the most of the prolific harvest whilst it is available.

“WANNABEE”    LEWIS HAMILTONS

Concern has been voiced about the “yoof” driving their small and perfectly formed cars at break-neck speed around the village. It may have escaped this age group , but we are not Le-Mans, Monaco or Silverstone. Cutting corners on the wrong side of road, revving engines , putting their foot down does not make a Maclaren or a Formula  1 sports car.  Less selfishness and more consideration for other road users in the Village , particularly the “seniors and children”  who do not move quickly to get out of their way.  If they wish to “burn rubber” go and find a nice race track somewhere where the only people they will harm will be themselves.    The speed limit is there for a reason and applies to everyone.

LITTLE  MISSENDEN  PROMS

For those of us who attended last Saturday’s “Last Night of the Proms” in Little Missenden  had a thoroughly enjoyable evening.  It was a balmy evening complete with picnic and wine.  Aylesbury Concert Band were extremely entertaining and the evening concluded with a very impressive firework display.  Our thanks go to Father John for arranging this event.

CREAM  TEAS  available  every Sunday afternoon at the Parish Church.  What’s better than a stroll down to Little Missenden, sit and indulge with a cup of tea ,  naughty cream cakes and walk off the calories afterwards ? Then back to for a glass of wine from The Plough and watch the cricket.

PLEASE  BE  CAUTIOUS

The school holidays are almost upon us and children will be out and about on their bicycles , scooters and roller skates.  I would like to urge all parents to tell their children to exercise caution when riding on the pathway which connects Harvest Bank  with Westfield. There are cars constantly reversing, turning and parking in Westfield  who do not have a clear vision of this area.  PLEASE MAKE YOUR CHILD AWARE !!

SCHOOL

The school breaks up for the Summer Holidays on Wed 23rd July 1.30pm. to Thursday 4th September.

CRICKET

After their tour to North Devon in which the club suffered 2 defeats, it was back to normal last Sunday.

With a 3 wicket win over Gt. Gaddesden, in which Spencer North took 5 wickets and Wade Mahmoud scored 52.

This week we have 2 home fixtures. On Friday against the touring Petts Wood and Sunday the Full Tossers.  Both games start at 2pm.

TRANSPORT  TO CHALLENORS  SCHOOLS

Bucks CC are proposing to have a joint school bus service to and from  both Girls and Boys Grammar Schools starting in September. This has caused a great deal of controversy as it will add possibly as much as 8 – 10hrs extra a week on to the students journeys which at the moment takes 10 minutes. There is a petition to sign should anyone wish to challenge this arrangement.

VILLAGE  SHOP

Is continuing to stock fresh strawberries several times a week whilst in season, along with lots of locally grown fresh fruit and veg.  Icecreams going like hot-cakes !

BUS  STOP

The Council would not let the School have a foot-path to get safely to the School so in their infinite wisdom they have stuck up bollards and yellow paint on a bus stop which virtually no-one uses. Total madness and a complete waste of money !

DOG  FOULING

Dog Fouling has raised its ugly head again . This time it concerns the play area on The Common. The mother’s who take their children to play on the Common are getting increasingly angry at this thoughtless , anti-social and fineable offence . To allow any dog near the Childrens Play Area is  inconsiderate of their welfare, particularly as dog faeces are known to harbour very serious bacteria and can in extreme cases cause blindness.

VILLAGE  SCHOOL

We thank the Village School for bringing to the parents attention the on-going Parking Problems we have when children are being delivered and collected from School.

As the position of “Crossing Patrol ”  still remains  unfilled this causes an added problem for children crossing the road. It is a busy road and pedestrians do need a clear vision of any potential hazard which may endanger lives. There are always heavy lorries turning into the road running by the side of the Church and they need a clear vision , room to manoeuvre and adequate time to brake if necessary. Plus consideration for other motorists.

There are 2 positions which still need filling to help in our Community.

The Crossing Patrol for School and a Driver for the  Age Concern Bus to Chesham.

If anyone can offer any help for either of  these two positions please contact a) The School  for the Crossing on 01494-783835  b) Derek Faversham on 01494-864677 for the Shopping Bus.

The Driver for this weeks Shopping Bus to Chesham is:- Steve Epps.

January 16th

I would like to give a belated “Thank You” to the residents of the Village who took the time and trouble to clear the drains near Bulbaiters Lane 2 weeks ago. This has always been a problem area with flooding and despite the many attempts over the years by the council nothing has resolved the situation.  Despite the heavy rain we have experienced recently, this area has now been kept clear due to their initiative. The residents are very grateful and thank you.

January 3rd

A  VERY  HAPPY  NEW  YEAR  TO ALL  OUR  RESIDENTS  FROM  YOUR  NEWSLETTER  TEAM.

The Festivities are over for another year and it is time to look forward to this next one with renewed  optimism and a promise to keep all those New Year Resolutions.

We will kick off the New Year with a New Project and Challenge .

LITTLE MISSENDEN CHURCH  is the proud possessor of a set of handbells which need dusting off from their mothballs , restored and put to use again.

A group to meet up and practise tunes once or twice a month, no previous experience or musical knowledge required. Gareth Malone started a Choir in the Workplace. We need a Handbell Choir in the Community.

To continue this ancient art and put to  use the bells we already have , it will preserve another Country Folk Tradition. Not only will it be fun and sociable , we could be playing at the next Christmas Eve Concert.
The tutor for this will be our local  Bell Ringer Ruth Groves.

Please contact her on :01494-783978 . email: Ruth.groves@tiscali .co.uk

Thursday 9th January is the W.I ‘s first meeting of the year. Commencing at 8pm in The Hall.  Please come and join this very friendly group of ladies who do occasionally “ go off piste”

THE  ELGIVA  THEATRE   have installed new digital cinema equipment. They  will now be showing  current productions live from The West End. Check the “What’s On” programme for information on what is coming up during the next 3 months.

THE  SHOPPING BUS TO CHESHAM  every Friday will be requiring a new driver in April.. This service is so important to the Senior residents of our Village who do not have the transportation to get out of the Village to the main Supermarkets.  2hrs once a month is all that is required. Please contact Derek Faversham on 01494-864677.

The Driver of this weeks Shopping Bus to Chesham is:  Charlie Carrington.
