HYDE HEATH DRAMA GROUP

Newsletter October 2012

The Drama groups productions for this year have been “Treasure Island” which was performed in February and “Daisy Pulls it Off” which was performed in April.

“Treasure Island” had a large cast with ages ranging from 8years to 80 years.

“Daisy Pulls it Off” is a story of life in a 1920’s girls boarding school. This was performed brilliantly by all the young girls.

The next production the Hyde Heath Drama Group will present is one of the most spell-binding thrillers of the 20th century, Patrick Barlow’s award-wining and hilarious adaptation of The 39 Steps.

Based on Alfred Hitchcock’s legendary 1935 movie version of John Buchan’s immortal and gripping tale, this outstanding whodunit is an astonishing theatrical tour-de-force with just seven actors playing all 140 parts.

This spectacular classic thriller remains faithful to the original movie in every detail and will have audiences on the very edge of their seats with a heart-stopping chase on the Flying Scotsman, the death-defying escape on the Forth Bridge, the pursuit across the desolate Scottish Highlands and the very first theatrical bi-plane crash ever staged at Hyde Heath. All leading to a dramatic climax on the stage of the London Palladium.

This is a theatrical extravaganza not to be missed.

Venue: Hyde Heath Village Hall, Thursday 4th, Friday 5th October at 7.45pm & Saturday 6th October at 2pm & 7.45pm

Tickets £10 ( £9 concessions) includes refreshments.

Box Office 01494 773511 & 01494 786939.

The AGM will be on Monday 8th October 2012 at 7.30pm

Auditions will take place at 8.00pm on Monday 8th October 2012 for the next production which is:  'Tom's Midnight Garden' adapted by David wood from the book by Phillipa Pearce. It was a successful television play and is currently doing a short season in London.

The story revolves around Tom, who in the 1950's goes to stay with his Uncle and Aunt in their stuffy flat in a Victorian house, quarantined there as his brother has measles. He is restless and bored and startled one night to hear the grandfather clock in the main hallway strike thirteen. He goes to investigate and finds, not the back yard, but a beautiful, large garden in the 1880's. He meets Hatty, a lonely orphan who is initially the only person who can see him. He visits her every night and writes to his brother about it. But while he stays the same age, Hatty grows up. Before Tom goes home to his parents the final twist is revealed.

This year, once again the Drama Group has performed two very successful plays.

The February production was “The Flint Street Nativity” written by Tim Firth (who also wrote calendar girls). This was performed on 3rd,4th & 5th February 2011.

This was a challenge for the cast as they had to perform as seven year olds in the first act then back to adults in the second act.  In April the production was “Five Blue Haired Ladies Sitting on a Green Park Bench”. This was set in New York so the cast had the challenge of performing with a New York accent.  Although the audiences were a little down in numbers those who attended really enjoyed this very funny play.

The Drama Group again ran the bookstall at the Village Fete in May.  It was a very successful day.

The Social event this summer was a visit to the Globe Theatre to see “Anne Boleyn”.  Thanks to Anne for organising the tickets and the mini bus.

The next social event has not been organised as yet.  In the Autumn it was suggested that we have a supper event at Joyce’s barn, the date of this to be arranged.  Also in December will be the annual Christmas meal.

The next production will be “Treasure Island”  This will be an adaptation that Howard is writing at the moment.  Erica will be producing and directing.  The performance dates on 2nd,3rd & 4th February 2012.  It is hoped that we will have plenty of pirates in the cast.  We would also like the children in the audience to dress as pirates.

If you know of anyone who may be interested in joining the Drama Group, especially MEN could you please email Erica at ericaelson@aol.com

The AGM will be on Friday 2nd September 2011 at 7.30pm in the Village Hall

The auditions will take place at 8.00pm on Friday 2nd September 2011.

Rehearsal start Monday 3rd October 2011

The Drama Group has again succeeded in producing two very successful plays this year.

In February the production was “The Railway Children”.  We had a full audience for each of the four performances and the feedback was very positive.  The children were excellent and the set and lighting were outstanding. One of the highlights was the train coming out of the tunnel.

In April the production was “Dancing at Lughnasa”. The feedback from those who attended was very positive.  Everyone enjoyed the performance and this helped to boost the numbers.  The tree was the one of the star attractions.  Again the set and lighting was excellent.  Well done to the new comers in the cast.

The Drama Group again ran the bookstall at the Village Fete in May.  It was a very successful day with plenty of people visiting the stall all afternoon.

The Drama Group had a summer evening get together at the Globe Theatre, where “The Merry Wives of Windsor” was performed.  Thanks to Anne for organising this for us.

The next production will be “The Flint Street Nativity” written by Tim Firth (who also wrote calendar girls). This will be performed on 3rd,4th& 5th February 2011.

This is a warm, funny and witty play featuring “Mizzis Horrocks” class of seven year olds at Flint Street Junior School, who are about to perform The Nativity to their proud parents – and the occasional social worker.  Tim Firth vividly captures the way children feel and speak. The humour involves puns, slapstick and witty lyrics set to the tunes of the usual Christmas Carols.  The children are played by adults, who later play their parents so the set changes to reflect the difference in scale.
