HYDE HEATH DRAMA GROUP
NEWSLETTER - MAY 2005
The year started in sparkling form with the outstanding success of
"Aladdin." Four full houses and a healthy profit at the end. Could we follow
that? Yes, we did.
Thanks to Anne's and Glen's direction and the dedication of the cast, our
production of "House Guest" was another winner.
So, what's next? Well, our next full production is not until January 2006
and to fill in the gap, I seized the opportunity to accept the village hall
committee's offer to stage a Murder Mystery Evening. The committee has been
asking us to do this for several years and somehow we have never been able
to agree a date. We have settled on 2nd July. It
works like this. The hall committee arrange the evening - advertise, sell
tickets, make the supper. We just provide the action.
Bob Bums-Green is writing a script for a short play - about 30 minutes
for 7 or 8 players. The audience, in tables of 6 or 8 work as a tearn to
deduce who dun it. The players go and talk to the audience and answer
questions but only the murderer may lie. There is a prize for the winning
team.
Tickets are £8 to include supper and there will be a licenced bar. We
will have a share of the profits.
Are you available and willing to take part? Please let me know, if
possible by the end of this month. It won't be too much of a commitment,
no-one will have huge numbers of lines and we should need only 3 or 4
rehearsals, with perhaps just one on the stage and no set! Then get your
friends to make up a few tables and a great time will be had by all.
Howard is planning another blockbuster for January - 'Allo, 'Allo".
Auditions will be held early in September. Meanwhile, enoy the Spring and if
you are going on holiday, have a great time and we'll meet again on 2nd
July or in September.
Best wishes
Sylvia Brown
Newsletter - August
2003
With the end of the summer fast approaching, the start of the
Drama Group autumn season is almost upon us.
There has been a change to one of the dates given in the last
Newsletter in May, when it was stated that the A.G.M. and the auditions were to
be held on 5th September. These will now be on Monday, 8th September at 8.30
p.m. after Keep Fit, which Jill Wheeler has promised to finish very promptly.
Anne Lloyd Jones is looking forward to producing the next
play. She has chosen "Comfort and Joy", a comedy by Mike Harding. There are a
number of characters in this play, so she hopes to see as many members as
possible at the auditions following the A.G.M. on the 8th. The performance dates
are 22nd, 23rd and 24th January 2004.
We hope you are all keeping Saturday 27th September free to
help with the annual Jumble Sale. This is a very necessary fund raising
activity, and the more helpers there are, the easier it is. There will be
sorting in the morning and selling in the afternoon, followed by the clearing
up. If you can't manage all day, please help at one of the sessions. Also please
collect items for sale among your friends and neighbours, and bring them up to
the Hall in the morning, or if rehearsals have started, on the Friday evening.

Newsletter - January 2001
Hopefully you all came to see "Pardon Me Prime
Minister" which was performed in the middle of January, Peter Hadden is to
be congratulated on a very successful production which the audiences all enjoyed
- very favourable comments have been received by the Committee.
Erica Elson has volunteered to produce the next play which
will be staged on 26th, 27th and 28th April. Auditions will take place in the
Village Hall next Monday, 29th January at 8.30 p.m. Owing to the
inefficient delivery service from French's, Erica has not yet received all the
plays she wants to read, but no doubt she will have decided on a play by the
29th. She hopes that there will be plenty of people present, as there are always
back stage jobs to fill as well as people needed to act.
Anne Lloyd-Jones also hopes that there will be enough members
who will be willing to help put on a short sketch at a Village Hall evening on
24th March. She will talk about this at the end of next Monday evening.
Future Social Dates:
There will be a Quiz Evening in the Village Hall on Saturday,
10th March. Try and fill up a table of 8. Tickets will be £6.00 to include a
fish and chip supper. Please bring your own drinks and glasses.
We are going out for an evening meal at The Rising Sun at
Little Hampden on Saturday, 31st March. If you don't know The Rising Sun, it
is an attractive country pub with a delicious menu.
We are planning to go greyhound racing and have a meal at
Walthamstow on Saturday, 5th May. Depending on numbers, a coach may be booked.
Please ring Anne Lloyd Jones (01494 783613) as soon as
possible about any or all of the above events. She needs to know numbers before
she can book.
Linda Hadden wishes to publicise an entertainment at Amersham
Cricket Club on Sunday, 25th February. The Cricket Club are very good at
supporting our plays, so please ring Linda (0 1494 773 792) if you are
interested in going.
Lastly, the Drama Group has been asked to run a Book Stall at
Hyde Heath Fete on 19th May, so please turn out any books/records/videos/etc/
you no longer want.
