September 2nd

The summers holidays are over and what a miserable 6 weeks it has been weather-wise. School returns this week with a new intake of pupils both at the infants and pre-school.  Not forgetting our Mothers and Toddlers Group who meet in the Village Hall.

For further information on this group there is now a Facebook page with added information.

AFFINITY  WATER

Continue their disruptive but necessary work throughout the village.

It would be helpful, however, if residents could also work out how to park their cars sensibly without adding to the already difficult situation. A good neighbourly approach to assist whilst these works are ongoing or an offer of a parking place, albeit, temporarily would be greatly appreciated by all affected.

Should anyone wish to contact the council in relation to any problems our Councillor is: Diana Varley e-mail: dvarley@chiltern.gov.uk mobile: 07947-368564.

HS2

Please don’t groan when this headline appears . There is some positive news to report this time. The Government has today confirmed that it has agreed to extend the HS2 tunnel through the Chilterns to beyond South Heath. This will preserve 12 hectares of woodland near Mantle’s Wood, Sibley’s Coppice and Farthings Wood.  Another step in the right direction.  We are getting there very slowly.

PARISH  NEWS

Father John will be lining up with Mo Farah along with 57,000 other people to compete in the Great North Run on Sunday September 13th. His chosen charity is The Alzheimers Society which is very close to his heart with his mother having been diagnosed with this cruel and debilitating disease 3yrs ago.  If you would like to support Fr. John click on:  https//www.justgiving.com/John-Simpson25/

HARVEST SUPPER

This will take place on Saturday 26th September in Lt. Missenden Village Hall .

VILLAGE  SHOP

The AGM took place this evening and was well attended.  To keep this vital facility open it must be used .

As the season of Fruit and Vegetables is prolific there is an abundance of fresh produce brought into the shop everyday from residents whose freezers are overflowing with goodies from their gardens and allotments.  All produce can be purchased at a fraction of the price of the supermarkets and there is no need to drive to get them.  There is an on-going push for a better diet . You can start here for healthy eating.

August 27th

I am still scraping the barrel for news to report.

AFFINITY  WATER

The ongoing disruption with the renewal of water pipes has now moved to the main road thru’ the village.  What everyone should be aware of is the necessity for boiling your water once it has been reconnected.  Information flyers which should have been put through the doors of Westfield last week were found in a sodden heap on the pavement.

PARISH  NEWS

Despite the inclement weather conditions last Sunday, the sun did eventually show itself  and the Hyde Heath ladies produced an excellent cream tea which was enjoyed by walkers who braved the elements.

August 6th

8-05

Instead of being gently awoken to the sound of birdsong this morning, I was rudely awoken at 7.15am by the deafening sound of  a pneumatic drill steadily boring its way along the pathway between Harvest Bank and Westfield. Whilst one appreciates that this work is necessary it was an insult to my hearing at such an unrealistic hour.

Hopefully the work will be finished by the end of the week.

Once again I have little to report this week as the school holiday’s  continue and the sound of children playing is eerily quiet.

HS2

You may all have received a flyer through your letter boxes this week inviting us once again to join forces and meet the 3 New Select Committee MP’s connected with the continuing saga of HS2 (when will someone see sense and put this money to better use) The arranged date this time is Monday 10th August and the approximate times to “greet and meet” are:-

17.05 – 17.13        Annie Baileys (now in a complete derelict and utterly disgraceful state)

17.13 – 17.29        Chapel Farm  -  to say “thank you”

17.29 – 17.39        Hyde Heath Road by track to Mantle’s Wood.

If your passions are still running high , please arrive early and bring friends, family neighbours to one or more of the  locations to show that your really care about your community and the Chilterns AONB . I thought this had already been done in bucket-loads.

July 30th

All is quiet on the Western Front this week with very little news to report.  Everyone has fled the Village to enjoy their Summer Hols.  That is apart from the continuation and disruption of the Water Contractors who in their infinite wisdom this morning  blocked the entry to Walnut Way from Brays Green Lane with 3 lorries .

PLEASE  BE  CAUTIOUS

The school holidays are almost upon us and children will be out and about on their bicycles, scooters and roller skates. I would like to urge all parents to tell their children to exercise caution when riding on the pathway which connects Harvest Bank with Westfield.  For the Residents who live at this end of Westfield their vision is restricted when reversing, turning, parking and although they drive slowly they do not have second sight. We care about the safety of your children.  PLEASE   MAKE  THEM  AWARE  OF  THE  DANGERS.

When I  requested one child to slow down , the response to me was “Why should I”

I can’t do anymore than publicly draw this to everyone’s attention with the best of intentions for their safety.

HS2 MP’s VISIT TO HYDE  HEATH

Despite the inclement weather there was an excellent turn out of our Villagers on Monday morning to “Meet and Greet the members of the Parliamentary Select Committee . Although it was a “whirlwind tour” of the contentious issue of the intended route we do hope that the concerns for the continued beauty of our area were well and truly noted .

The Children from the school with their banners added weight to these highly charged and emotive plans.

PARISH  NEWS

Cream Teas this Sunday at Lt.Missenden Church from 2.30pm – 5.30pm. These afternoon refreshments are extremely popular and a pleasant interlude when taking a stroll around the lovely village.

The  CHRISTopher Project.

This ambitious programme includes replacing of the Church Roof. Conservation of the historic and unique Wall Paintings. An improved and extended Church Office with additional Wash Room/Disabled Facilities and updated internal lighting.

Many fund raising projects will be launched which will be very necessary to see the improvements come to fruition . Midsomer Murders doesn’t  have the monopoly on this lovely area, we as residents do and the Church is its beating heart – it needs to be preserved.

No-one needs to be religious to get involved  -  just a love of our heritage and wonderful old buildings.

BREAK IN  AND PETTY THEFT IN  THE  VILLAGE

Last Saturday afternoon a house was broken into in Brays Lane and jewellery was removed.

A mobility car parked on a driveway had the glass from it’s wing mirrors removed.  From the front of the same house a large shrub in a container was also removed.

Please be vigilant. These thieves have no conscience if they can stoop so low as to target a mobility car .

FETE

It is almost upon us and most areas are covered – except for one.  David still needs volunteers to help with the BBQ.  David Coulton 01494-775967 or e-mail davidcoulton@yahoo.co.uk

The DAKOTA  FLYPAST  is scheduled for 1.30pm, so pray for fine weather and this amazing aircraft will get the Fete off to a grand start.

FESTIVAL  OF  FLOWERS

These beautiful arrangements from every group within the village will be on display in St.Andrew’s Church throughout the weekend of the Fete. If you haven’t already contacted the co-ordinator Margaret Dunn,  please do so asap. This is a really colourful way of showing how our Village works together.

LITTER  PICK

A big THANK  YOU  to everyone who turned out to tidy up our Village last week.. A special mention to John Ramsbottom who has repainted  the white gates. Peter Philips for providing the WIP board . Pipers Wood looked really lovely until a group of ignorant cyclists came through from the A413 , disgarded their water bottles and just for good measure gave our volunteers a “V” sign.  We don’t stand a hope of keeping our village clean and tidy with this attitude.  A letter has been sent to the Bucks Examiner.  It will be interesting to see if it is printed this week.

THE TRIBUTE SHOW REVIEW

For everyone that attended this Rod Stewart evening it was  great fun  for  non-stop singing and dancing.  Coupled with a very generous hot supper and a variety of puddings the whole evening was a success.  Our thanks to the Village Hall Committee for  organising  a completely different event.

A BRAND  NEW  BABY  AND  TODDLER GROUP

There are plans underway to set up a Baby/Toddler group in co-operation with the Pre-School. The first meeting is planned for Monday April 20th in the Village Hall.

Please spread the word as it would be very beneficial to have this meeting place for all new and young families in the Village.

If anyone has any good quality toys/resources they would like to donate , this would be a great help.

OBITUARY

It is with great sadness that I give the news of the passing of Irma Dolphin at the age of 92yrs. Irma moved to the village when she was just 4yrs old and lived here for 88yrs. Her indomitable spirit , ever youthful outlook , humour and twinkling eyes always made it a pleasure to spend time talking to her.  She wrote a book about the Village and her experiences over the years which is still available . It makes very interesting reading.  She will be greatly missed as one of our Village’s characters.

The funeral will be at Hyde Heath Church by the School on Monday March 30th at 12.15pm followed by a family committal.  All welcome afterwards in the plough.
