The last run will be on Christmas Day at 10am and she would welcome anyone who wishes to join her on a 2km run at a very steady pace with a glass of something fizzy on the Common at the finishing line.

PARISH  NEWS

St. Andrews . Hyde Heath  Morning Prayer  11th Dec.  09.15am

St. John the Baptist  Lt. Missenden:      This Sunday 11th December  is the FAMILY SERV ICE at 10am. This is the CHRISTINGLE SERVICE which will last for approx. 40mins. During the service the children will be invited to make their own CHRISTINGLE  from oranges, candles, ribbons, fruit and sweets.  Sounds very tasty.

The service will be followed by coffee & Croissants and a  SHORTENED COMMUNION SERVICE
at 11. am.  To  which everyone is invited.     Evening Prayer   6pm

POLICE  ALERT

Drivers using the motorway stations, particularly those along the M4 in Berkshire, are being warned that thieves using technology to prevent people locking their vehicles and then steal from them.

Thames Valley Police are warning people manually check all doors are locked before leaving their vehicles.

There has been a spate of 14 thefts from vehicles at motorway services in Berkshire in many cases there was no obvious sign of a break in.   BE VIGILANT.

SANTA’s  SLEIGH

The Rotary Club of Gt. Missenden have invited  Father Christmas to visit to the Village early evening on THURSDAY  15th DECEMBER  .

SHOP

A very disappointing turn out from the Villagers for last Saturday’s Shop Bazaar.  Such a lot of effort goes into this event which has been a permanent fixture in the Shop’s Diary for many years.  The planning for this starts months ahead  and there was little reward for so much effort given by a handful of people .

Don’t let this event fall by the wayside because of general apathy for Village Life Events.

HAND  BELLS

The Hand Bell Group will be Ringing Carols in The Plough on Friday 16th December at 7.30pm

VILLAGE  HALL

After a very well attended and enjoyable Quiz Night last Saturday I can report that the evening made a handsome profit.  Thanks go to David and Ruth Coulton for their excellent supper and organisation for the evening.  No figures available at this time.

HYDE  HEATH  THEATRE  COMPANY

The Inaugural Tour of Brayslane Amateur Theatre Society (BATS) present :-

“THE  ART  OF  COARSE  ACTING” on October 20th/21st/22nd at 8pm in the Village Hall. Tickets £15 to include a High Tea are available from The Village Shop or Box Office :- 07840-965411

The Author Michael Green is well known for his books on spoof. These 2 plays “STREUTH” and “A COLLIERS TUESDAY TEA” plot the worst of Am-Dram Society with what can possibly go wrong. Directed by Annie Hamilton-Pike who has vast experience in “messing things up”.

W.I

Tonight at 8pm  -  speaker this month is Julia Davis on her subject “The Citizens Advice Bureau”.

AGE  CONCERN  BUS

It is with profound disbelief that I have been informed that the AGE CONCERN BUS which has been driven by volunteers from the Village for 30 years to Chesham on a Friday afternoon,  has been withdrawn. This is due to the scandalous increase in fares to £1 per mile .   This will now have a knock-on effect for those people who have relied upon this bus every week.

Another case of “let’s hit the elderly where it hurts most”  and that is in their pocket.

It is not AGE CONCERN anymore but an AGE of  TOTAL LACK OF CONCERN.

NEWS  FROM THE PLOUGH

I have received sad news from Steve at The Plough that his mother, Judith, passed away suddenly on the 8th October.   Steve’s parents were regular visitors to The Plough and I enjoyed their company and conversation over lunch more than once.

Please join me  with our thoughts and sincere condolences which we send to Steve, Andy, Jo and the family at this time.

HYDE  HEATH  THEATRE  COMPANY

Annie Hamilton-Pike has accepted their kind invitation to direct the October Production entitled “The Art of Course Acting”.  This consists of two dreadful plays called “STREUTH! and  “A COLLIERS TUESDAY  TEA” . Both of them are epic pieces of distastrous proportions which simply extract ‘the michael’ from your typical Am-Dram group.

Men are always in short supply and Annie is looking for 3 ‘actors to fill some stupendous parts in “A Colliers Tuesday Tea”.  This is a tale of realistic working-class drama,  based on the work of D.H.Lawrence, set somewhere north of the Watford Gap , in a dreary miners cottage.

Age: Immaterial. Experience: much the same but pretty essential.

Call Annie on: 01494-786220 for more information and to arrange an “audition’ !!

POLICE  ALERT  FRAUD

The Police continue to work on your behalf with regular updates on burglary, vandalism and Scam Phone Calls. Courier Fraudsters phone and trick victims into handing over large sums of cash to a courier that arrives at their home.

Never deal with cold callers on the phone or in person, no matter how polite and friendly they are. Saying “No thank you” and shutting the door or hanging up the phone is not rude.

Phones with a “blocking device” are widely available or leave the Answerphone on until the caller has identified themselves.

This is just a reminder to be diligent at all times.

July 21st

We moaned about the wet and cold weather throughout April, May and June . We are now in the throws of a mini-heat wave which leaves everyone tired , drained and unable to sleep. No wonder it is permanently top of the conversation list.

Windows and doors are opened to catch any fleeting breeze and this also lets out loud music and raised voices . Please give some consideration to neighbours , Mum’s with babies and Senior residents. No-one wants to spoil anyone’s pleasure and there is nothing more enjoyable than hearing children play -  but - PLEASE -   moderation in all things.

BROWNIES

The Brownies have had a busy summer term of outdoor activities despite a lot of miserable weather. They have enjoyed a trip to Hervines Park in Amersham, activities on the Common and games on the school playing field.  The annual “water games” evening was held on the penultimate week of term. Despite being a cool evening, fun was had playing lots of games involving water and ended with a water fight in which there are no winners or losers, just lots of wet Brownies and Leaders !

At the last meeting of term , there were sad goodbyes to six of the Brownies who have turned 10yrs old and also to one of their helpers, Anna, who is off to university in the Autumn.  The first meeting of the Autumn Term will be on 12th September.  If there are any girls aged 7 + who would like to join Brownies there are spaces. E-mail:- hydeheathbrownies@outlook.com .

POLICE  ALERT  FRAUD

Travel Fraud in on the increase and the following advice has been offered:-

Avoid responding to unsolicited calls, texts or e-mails offering holidays at incredibly low prices.

Look for the “locked padlock” icon.

Take time to do some on-line research to ensure they are reputable.

Separately check the hotel/airline that your booking does indeed exist.

HOME SECURITY ON HOT DAYS

If you are in the garden at the rear of  your property do not leave doors or windows open at the front of the property. This is easy access for thieves .

POST  FETE

A very big THANK YOU  from the FETE COMMITTEE to everyone who helped to make last Saturday’s event so successful. The whole of the Common was buzzing with activities and there was possibly the largest attendance of visitors to date.

We, as a Village should take this opportunity to thank David Coulton and his committee for their committed hard work and dedication which doesn’t just span a few short weeks prior to the Fete. Once all the groups and Village Hall who benefit from the financial aspect of the Fete receive their donations, preparations will start again for next years Fete.

VILLAGE  SHOP

Following the enormous success of  the  Hazledene  Farm event , order forms for their meats are now available in the shop.  I sometimes think a lot of the villagers don’t appreciate the time taken by Ruth Coulton and her staff  who constantly source new products and negotiate for them to be delivered to the shop.  Don’t dismiss anything new until you have tried it.

INCONSIDERATE  PARKING

Brays Lane is becoming a veritable nightmare every morning with vehicles being parked mainly on the pathway or  opposite each other,  thus preventing larger delivery vehicles to access the Village and particularly the Shop on a Tuesday morning. There is adequate parking , it just means a few extra steps are needed to get to the Village Hall and a lot more thought.

BROWNIES

Over the weekend during the school holidays , some of the Hyde Heath Brownies went on a pack holiday to Elstree. Fortunately they were lucky with the weather and enjoyed lots of different activities . Particular highlights were a campfire and night time walk with a great view of the lights of London including Wembley Stadium and The Shard.   For the first meeting of the new term they enjoyed a visit to the Amersham Waste Depot where they were able to see the Bucks CC new gritter lorry . Two of the Brownies collaborated  to win a competition to name the new lorry, which is to be called “Snowflake”  There are currently vacancies . Contact Shanta Gillot at hydeheathbrownies@outlook.com

THAMES  VALLEY  ALERT

Now is the time that HMRC are contacting people in regards to Tax Rebate. Fraudsters have picked up on this and are texting members of the public offering a tax rebate. The text message contains a link to a website to provide personal information such as bank account details to claim non-existent rebates. I myself have been the recipient of e-mails pertaining to this and had the sense to delete them and not open them. HMRC will never use texts or e-mails or tell you about a potential rebate or ask for personal information.

CRICKET  CLUB

I am sure you have all noticed the activity on the Common with the Cricket Club who are extending their clubhouse to incorporate an electronic scoreboard  & other improvements.  Last weekend between Friday evening and early Monday morning, a dumper truck and digger were stolen from this area - please keep a look out for anyone hanging around suspiciously and report it to the police.

OBITUARY  AND  TRIBUTE

Dave Bevan, Jo and Kirsty are very sad to inform you that Val, their lovely wife and mum, passed away on Monday 11th April following a stroke.

We cannot express our sadness at this devastating loss, but we know it is shared by so many who loved her too.

She will be deeply missed by all her family, friends and those whose lives she touched, with her commitment to charity and to improving the lives of others.

A service is being held to celebrate Val’s life on Thursday 28th April at 1pm in the Milton Chapel at Amersham Crematorium, Whielden Lane, HP7 OND and afterwards in Hyde Heath Village Hall.

Val loved bright colours and had wanted her family and friends to wear something bright to the service.

We are asking for family flowers only, but Val was passionate about supporting the Pepper Foundation, and if anyone wishes to make a donation in her memory, this can be done at   www.pepper.org.uk

We would like to thank everyone for their kind words and support at this difficult time.

“ MARCH WENT OUT LIKE A LION

AWAKIN’ UP THE WATER IN THE BAY”

Appropriate lyrics from Rogers and Hammersteins musical “Oklahoma” to describe the most appalling Easter Weekend weather

The Hyde End Craft Fair was curtailed due to the weather – especially the mud causing vehicles to become stuck in the parking areas. Also affected  was The Thame Show.

Fortunately I went to the Craft Fair on Good Friday and was well worth the visit.

The Food Fair at Gt Missenden was probably most affected being on a hill and mud carried out on to the A413 caused hazardous conditions on the road outside the site.

MOTHERS  DAY

Is this Sunday March 6th. Look at the display in the Shop for Cards and Presents.

Treat Mum to lunch at The Plough - book now & enjoy one of Steve’s very tasty Sunday Lunches.

VILLAGE  SHOP

Everyone in the Village should have received a notification regarding the forthcoming vacancy in the Shop . Which is  imminent this  month.

In 2001 – 15yrs ago we were close to losing this vital Village commodity. A plea went round the Village to save it and the residents pledged £200 per household which entitled them to shares and thus saved one of the very few remaining Village stores in the country.  From a temporary container positioned between the School and the Church our Shop and its’ staff  courageously carried on with massive support and spearheaded by a very dedicated committee and a legacy left to the Village Hall by one of our residents , enough funds were available to extend the Village Hall and accommodate a permanent site.

Over the ensuing years a back bone of staff  have stoically kept the shop alive through all weathers , giving their time  - some of them on a voluntary basis – sourcing new lines of products,  travelling to Cash and Carry, Shelf Filling , Stock taking and more importantly , noticing when regulars do not turn up for their orders and alert neighbours to this situation.

This Shop is the Village Life-Line and we are now in  a situation where , through a possible lack of staff – we could  face the same situation we were in 15yrs ago. In other words we could have come “Full Circle”.

All that is required are extra Sales Assistants to cover shifts on a Friday afternoons 1pm – 5pm,  Saturday mornings from 7am – 9am and Sunday mornings 9am – 12 noon.  These paid positions could be shared – full training will be given.  If you are 18 or over , male or female please give it some serious consideration and contact Ruth (Shop Manager) in the shop or on 01494-775967.
